Online community radio station ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappFM is gearing up for a busy summer and is inviting the community to sign up for the group's citizen journalism workshop on Sunday (May 27).
Award-winning documentary filmmaker Beverly Reid will host the workshop, which aims to help locals learn more about the tools needed to cover local events or produce your own podcast or online broadcast.
Topics to be covered at the workshop include learning how to interview subjects with your smart phone or digital recorder, learning the basics of digital audio editing, becoming familiar with how to upload programs to the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappFM website and learning how to participate with the group's project.
In addition to her work as a filmmaker, Reid was an instructor at Capilano University's media program for 22 years. According to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappFM's Craig Davidiuk, Reid is an engaging, fun and dynamic instructor.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Reconnect Alternative School Program building located behind Howe Sound Secondary School. The cost to take part in the program is $30 and the fee includes a one-year membership to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappFM.
ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappFM will also be involved in Canada Day celebrations as the group will host a stage downtown, as well as the first annual Air Guitar competition.
