For the second consecutive year, Howe Sound Secondary (HSS), Don Ross Secondary (DRS) and Whistler Secondary (WSS) schools competed last weekend at the swimming championships to qualify for the high school provincials at Watermania in Richmond Nov. 18 and 19.
Each school fielded two athletes and were coached by Allison Corbett, who also heads the 蜜桃视频appPirates swim club program.
High school aquatics is not broken down into age groups so Grade 8s compete against Grade 12s, which makes the success of Sarah Dale, a Grade 10 HSS student, so impressive. Dale qualified for the provincials in all four of her races (top six advance), with a top finish of third in the 50-metre freestyle.
Also from HSS, Grade 11 student Wyatt Pedersen qualified in four events. He finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.36 seconds.
The representatives from Don Ross were Grade 8 student Oliver Jarrett and Grade 9 student George Sherlock. Jarrett's best finish was 17th in the 50 backstroke and Sherlock placed 10th in the 100 individual medley.
From Whistler Secondary, Grade 9 students K.J. Kimura and Luke Herron placed ninth and sixth in the 100 individual medley and 100 freestyle, respectively. Herron and Kimura will join Dale and Pederson in Richmond.
