DRSS cross-country teams place third

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapprunners eye success at provincials this weekend

Four weeks of intense racing on the North Shore ended last week with successful results for both the girls and boys Don Ross Secondary School (DRSS) cross-country running teams.

Both teams posted outstanding performances to take third place in their respective divisions during the four race series, which wrapped up at DRSS with the zone finals on Wednesday (Oct. 26). Results of that race were not available at press time.

The girls team of Makenna Bailey, Claire Fromme, Shondra Martin and Alex Wade bested 11 other schools in the overall zone results, finishing behind only Sentinel and West Vancouver. In the final race on Oct. 19, Martin powered to a second-place finish and Bailey took fifth in the field of 21 athletes to help the team edge Collingwood and Argyle in the final results.

Not to be outdone by the girls, the larger boys team of Jordan McCreanor, Domenic Wade, Cody Wolfe, Rhys Verner, Sam Sherlock, Jose Sanchez and Liam Johnston put in strong performances in all four contests, including a first-place for the team at the Cleveland Dam race on Oct. 6. They topped 13 other schools including West Van and Sentinel to take the third place, just behind Windsor and Sutherland.

Earlier races also took place at Ambleside on Sept. 28 and Keith Lynn Park in North Vancouver on Oct. 1, with racers running between three and five kilometres per race.

The zone finals race was to see Grade 8 to 12 athletes compete as a group for the top 20 places that will qualify for the Provincial Championships in Kelowna on Saturday (Oct. 29).

Check for results from the finals in next week's edition of The Chief.
