HSSS Grade 10 Girls win v-ball tourney

Team stages come-from-behind win over Whistler in final

There was only one ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappteam left standing after the Sea to Sky Volleyball Tournament finals on Thursday (Nov. 7).

The Grade 10 Howe Sound Sounders Girls team took home the top prize at the event, posting a comeback win over arch-rival Whistler in three sets.

Howe Sound dropped the first game 25-19 but then roared back in the second, winning 25-18 and forcing a third and final game. The Sounders cruised to a 15-10 win in the final game to take home the trophy. It's the first time since 2010 that the Sounders Grade 10 Girls have won the tournament.

Team members included: Amanjot Dhami, Ali Wallace, Kristina Cairns (captain), Harbir Atwal, Alex Wade, Allison Lane, Alysha Kearly-Renfro, Makenna Bailey, Vanessa Yendall and head coach Jamie Harper.

The Grade 9 Girls final saw Pemberton Secondary defeat Don Ross Secondary School (DRSS) 25-21 and 25-22. For the Senior Girls it was Pemberton defeating Whistler 19-25, 25-11, 25-17 and 25-22.

Up next for local volleyball will be the elementary school tournament on Nov. 22. Girls games will be at HSS and boys games at DRSS. A total of 12 girls and 11 boys teams from the Sea to Sky Corridor are expected to hit the court for the tournament.
