Victory tasted sweet for Khalsa.
After losing in a shootout to arch-rival Galileo in last year's Howe Sound Men's Soccer League (HSMSL) final, the club faced their foe again for the top prize in the league and picked up a 2-0 victory at Brennan Park on Saturday (April 14).
It always motivates us when we play against those guys, said Khalsa's Russell Adams, who scored the game's opening goal. It's definitely a game that we all get up for.
Khalsa was up for the title game, limiting Galileo's chances and helping goalkeeper Jeremy Galley pick up the shutout. Adams opened the scoring 28 minutes into the first half and Chris Sedgwick scored a goal just before the end of the first half to add a little insurance.
The teams traded chances in the second half but both Galley and Khalsa goalie Allan Carson turned away all shots. It caps off an excellent season for Khalsa, who lost only three games all season. According to Adams, the team's familiarity with one another helped lead to the successful season.
We've played together for so long now and we've got a solid group of guys, he said. Everyone knows what they have to do to help us win and it worked out well for us this year.
The third place game saw Automind pick up a 4-2 upset victory over Sikh Temple. Automind had four fewer victories than Temple in the regular season but managed to finish off the season strong.
