The Sea to Sky Enduro Series returns to Ƶappon July 5.
The brand new series debuted in Ƶappon May 3 with The Gryphon. Next up is the debut of The Mock Turtle.
Cycling groups from North Vancouver (NSMBA), Ƶapp(ƵappEnduro), Whistler (WORCA) and Pemberton (PVTA) came together to create the series, with all proceeds from the events aiming to help trail builders in each community.
According to the ƵappEnduro group’s website, an enduro race typically consists of three to five timed stages which take place on technical, generally descending terrain. The stages are linked by predominantly ascending connecting stages.
Similar to The Gryphon, race details for The Mock Turtle are not being released until July 3 at 5 p.m. Organizers state that each of the five stages will be unique and there will be primes. An minimum “intermediate” level of riding is recommended for the event.
It all gets underway at 10 a.m., with the last riders crossing the finish line by 3 p.m. After the race, there will be an after party at The Spice Root Kitchen and Bar starting at 6:30 p.m. An awards ceremony and prize giveaways get going at 7:30 p.m.
The Mock Turtle costs $80 to register and will go down rain or shine. It’s the fifth race in the series, with the series concluding on July 26 in Whistler.
On May 3, the series debuted in Ƶappwith The Gryphon. Whistler’s Jesse Melamed won that race for the elite men and by Squamish’s Miranda Miller for the elite women. Other winners included: Pat Foster (open men), Simmone Lyons (open women), Chad Hendren (master’s men), Elladee Brown (master’s women) and Luke Di Marzo (junior men).
Organizers are looking for volunteers to help with the race and those interested can contact race directors Melissa Sheridan at [email protected] or Dylan Smith at [email protected].
