The Brennan Park Recreation Centre pool may be closed for its annual maintenance, but the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappPirates swimming club is using the brief closure as an opportunity to get all hands on deck.
The team announced registration times for new recruits and they hope to build off of a successful summer season. Those interested in registering with the team can do so on any Tuesday in September, with registration taking place in the Brennan Park lobby from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The fall swim season begins in October and is open to any interested swimmer from the age of 5 and up. The club-based swim program will focus the fall session on stroke refinement, swim fitness and team activities.
The season will officially kick off on Oct. 4, lasting until Dec. 15, with swimmers having the option to train on Tuesdays, Thursdays or both days. New members of the Pirates will hit the water from 5 to 6 p.m., with a 15-minute warm-up prior to entering the pool.
The only prerequisite is that all team members must be able to swim 25 metres unassisted or have achieved Swim Kids 4 certification. The cost to join the team is $140 for one practice a week and $250 for two practices a week, with an additional $35 insurance fee for those who didn't take part in the summer season.
Kids are advised to bring along goggles, a swim cap and a water bottle for practices. For the summer season, the Pirates had 60 team members ranging in age from 6 to 16.
