PrimaFondo back for 2014

Event just around the corner

Squamish’s Corsa Cycles is the first official stop on the road to the 2014 RBC GranFondo Whistler.

For the fourth straight year, the local bike shop is hosting the PrimaFondo, a warm-up event for September’s RBC GranFondo Whistler, on Saturday (Aug. 2) at 11 a.m.

Riders of all abilities are invited to participate in this free day of road riding, whether they are registered in the RBC GranFondo Whistler or not.

“This is our fourth year hosting this event,” said Corsa Cycles’ Dave Heisler. “And it’s a great, low-key way to prepare for the RBC GranFondo Whistler and to be introduced to road riding in a group.”

The PrimaFondo starts promptly at 11 a.m. when riders will depart from Corsa Cycles in the ƵappStation Mall in groups led by experienced Corsa Team riders.

Participants will enjoy a scenic ride through Ƶappand Paradise Valley before returning to Corsa Cycles in time for a catered barbecue lunch and social at 1 p.m.

Heisler asks that drivers watch out for packs of cyclists along the route between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 2.

“Drivers and riders in the valley are generally really respectful of each other, so we just want to ask drivers to pay special attention during that day,” Heisler said.

Cervelo Canada will be on hand with a limited number of demo road bikes for participants to try. If you are interested, please contact Corsa Cycles to check availability and reserve a bike.

The event is free to participants, but you must RSVP online at www.granfondowhistler.com/CorsaCyclesPrimaFondo to reserve your place in the pack and at the lunch table. Please drop by the shop or contact us by email ([email protected]) for more information.
