Rosser, Miller dominate in Quebec

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappresidents take top two spots in first Canada Cup downhill race

Two ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappresidents landed a one-two punch atop the standings at the first Canada Cup race in Mont-Tremblant, Que., on Sunday (May 22).

Lauren Rosser posted the fastest time by any female on the weekend, blazing through the course with a time of four minutes, 51.966 seconds.

"I had a solid run, got through clean and am really happy with getting the win," said Lauren Rosser, the 2010 junior world champion.

Squamish's Miranda Miller was right behind Rosser, placing second with a time of 5:00.938. The duo sits atop the overall Canada Cup downhill standings, with two other races scheduled in the summer series. Next up for Rosser and Miller in the downhill series will be the Bromont Open, which takes place June 25 and 26 in Bromont, Que. The series will conclude July 30 and 31 at Panorama, B.C.

Brackendale's Brandi Heisterman led the charge for ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappresidents in the cross-country race, finishing third in the elite women's division race on Saturday (May 21). Heisterman led early but after starting fast and finishing poorly at the Sea Otter Classic last month, she decided to let someone else set the pace.

"I am scarred from Sea Otter, and fear the hell Iendured there when I burned my matches too early," she stated on her blog. "Don't blow up,conserve, I kept telling myself. I watched my heart rate monitor more than I watched what was happening around me,because as the winner passed me on the second lap, I didn't even care, I justkept monitoring myself. I wasn't aware of the race unfolding around me, I was toofocussed on my heart rate.I started to pick up the pace and gamble morenear the end of the third lap and into the fourth, but it was too late, the gap was too big and I could not close it."

Despite the disappointing finish, Heisterman was pleased with her performance at the first Canada Cup race of the season.

"I am happy to have made the podiumat my first Canada Cup, but I can't help but think, had I woken up from myfog on lap two, could I have climbed out of third and into first," she pondered. "I guess that's racing."

Heisterman will try to improve on her third-place ranking at the next cross country race in the series, May 29 in Baie-Saint-Paul, Que.

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappresident Neal Kindree also participated at the Canada Cup race in the cross-country division but failed to complete the course.
