The competitive portion of the season ended on a high note for the Howe Sound Sounders rugby team.
Howe Sound invited Sechelt’s Chatelech Secondary to Ƶappto participate in a 7’s mini-tournament and the Sounders won all three games (20-5, 10-5 and 15-10).
Sounders coach Sarah Lepine was pleased with her team’s effort and said the players adjusted well to a different style of rugby than they’re accustomed to.
“The team really pulled together and are starting to play a more strategic and aggressive game,” she said. “There was a lot of effort and sportsmanship from both teams and it was a really fun tournament to watch.”
Nick Beauliea, Kevin Newman and Dominik Kalita each received a man of the match nod during the mini-tournament.
The event marked the end of the competitive season for the Sounders, but they also hosted an intrasquad game and team wind-up on Tuesday (May 20). The team is scheduled to and out year end awards at the wind-up event.
