Sidhu falls just short

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappresident places second in CBC Hockey Pool

It all came down to Dennis Wideman.

The Washington Capitals defenceman notched two assists in his team's 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday (Jan. 13) and just like that, ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappresident Malwinder Sidhu dropped one point behind the leader in the CBC Fantasy Hockey Pool.

Sidhu finished with 614 points in the pool, which ended on Friday, one point behind the winner. The agony of being so close to winning a 2011 Kia Optima Hybrid (valued at $35,495) didn't seem to sting Sidhu too much, as he admitted he plans to participate in the pool put on by CBC during the second half of the season. He said he had a lot of fun compiling his stats during the past few months.

The second-half pool, which started on Saturday (Jan. 16), sees Sidhu currently in a tie for 17,660th place. But with several months of action left in the regular season, it should give the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappresident ample time to inch his way back into contention. The winner of the second-half pool will receive a 2012 Kia Sorrento (valued at $29,195).

The pool is free. To register, visit www.hockeypool.cbc.ca.
