Sirens seeking fresh talent

Local roller derby team hosting recruitment event

The Sea to Sky Sirens roller derby team is looking for some fresh meat.

The team heated up the summer in Squamish, hosting several successful bouts, and is looking for more players and referees to join in the fun.

The free event on Sunday (Sept. 25) will allow newcomers to the sport an introduction to the rules, the chance to watch a scrimmage and the opportunity to slap on some gear and hit the floor. Gear will be available on a first-come, first-served basis but the team said participants are expected to bring their own helmets.

The Sirens made their official debut back in February, when they took on the Harbour City Rollers and then invaded the Brennan Park Recreation Centre on June 18 for their home debut. The Sirens hosted two more home bouts in July and most recently took on Kelowna's Tournament City Derby Dolls on Aug. 27.

The recruitment event will take place at the Totem Hall on Sunday (Sept. 25) from 7 to 10 p.m. Those who are unable to make the date but are still interested can contact the team at [email protected].
