While some attendees of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappValley Music Festival might be going to bed, at the same time the trails of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappwill be packed with competitors at the second annual ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµapp50 race on Saturday (Aug. 10).
Action gets underway bright and early with 50-mile runners gathering at the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappOceanfront for a 5:30 a.m. start. All 150 spots for the 50 mile were scooped up late in 2012 and a new 50-kilometre race has been added.
The 50km race kicks off at Alice Lake at 9 a.m., with the returning 23km race getting underway at Quest University at 8 a.m. A one-km kid's race is another new addition to the event, with runners meeting at Pavilion Park in Downtown ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappat 10:30 a.m. The kids race is a free event for all children.
The 50-mile race features a course that is over 85 per cent single track and contains more than 12,000 feet of climbing elevation. The largest individual climb is approximately 2,500 feet.
ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappresident Jason Loutitt won last year's inaugural race. He completed the course in 7:25:22. For more information on the event, visit www.squamish50.com.
