Group of 16 curlers defeat teams from Sunshine Coast

ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappsenior curlers once again proved they shouldn't be taken lightly.

A group of 16 local senior curlers traveled to Gibsons on Feb. 5 for Part 2 of the club's annual invitational challenge.

Part 1 of the heated rivalry occurred in ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappon Dec. 2, with Howe Sound Curling Club (HSCC) seniors winning six of the eight games on the day.

The event in Gibsons also saw the Powell River Curling Club involved but that didn't seem to phase the group from Squamish. HSCC members beat Gibsons by a total score of 36-18 over the two events, the first time in several years ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµapphas been victorious over Gibsons.

Then in the tri-club event, ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappcurlers posted five wins compared to 3.5 wins for curlers from Gibsons and Powell River.

Team representatives said they will be back in 2015 to defend their title. The next big event for the HSCC is the Master Men's Bonspiel on Feb. 26.
