The next WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals will be held in Prince Albert, Sask., and a Squamolian has made it onto the 16-man roster.

Local Kevin Schellenberg is no stranger to international play. In 2015 he netted consecutive gold medals at both the ISF World Championships and the Pan-Am Games. Schellenberg also overcame major injuries earlier in life to extend his career.

"On behalf of the coaching staff and Softball Canada, we would like to congratulate all the athletes that were selected to attend the Selection Camp at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex this past weekend. It is a huge honour competing for a spot to represent your country," said men’s national team head coach John Stuart in a press release. "Selecting the final roster for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup was a very difficult task, and that speaks to how prepared our athletes were coming into camp.

"The staff is very excited to have a solid mix of veterans and younger players on our roster as we compete for a World title on home soil in Prince Albert."

Remarked team captain Shane Boland: "I’m very excited to get things going with the amazing athletes chosen to represent Team Canada."

The Finals will be held from July 8 to 13 and represent an opportunity for the Maple Leaf to better its silver-medal result at the same event in 2022. Canada, currently ranked fourth in the world, finds itself in Group A with Argentina (No. 1), New Zealand (No. 8) and Venezuela (No. 5).
