It’s been a busy summer so far for Squamish’s Ironkid Linnea Uunila.
Since winning her age group at the Alcatraz Sharkfest swim in San Francisco on June 7, Uunila, 11, has competed in five more gruelling events.
She grabbed a second-place finish in her age group at the Vancouver Exceleration Triathlon on June 29 and celebrated Canada’s birthday on July 1 with a first-place finish in the Canada Day Challenge Open Water one kilometre swim at Sasamat Lake.
Uunila was tops in the female under 19 division at the event and was also the second-fastest woman overall.
She then competed provincially representing SwimFaster at the B.C. AAA provincials in Victoria from July 3 to 6 and finished seventh in her age group and 30th among all women at the Across the Lake Swim in Kelowna on Saturday (July 19).
Uunila didn’t waste any time in Kelowna as she continued her busy competitive season on Sunday (July 20) with a first-place finish in her age division at the SunRype TriKids event.
There’s still plenty of events on the calendar for the rest of the summer. She’s competing at 5 Peaks Trail Race events at Cypress Mountain, Whistler and Buntzen Lake and a number of open-water swims in Vancouver and Seattle. The end of August will see her travel to Edmonton to participate at the International Triathlon Union youth race.
