Verner fifth at Canada Cup

For the second straight weekend, a trio of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappcyclists competed against the country’s best in Quebec on Saturday (May 24).

The second Canada Cup race of the season went down in Baie-St-Paul, Que. and Squamish’s Rhys Verner continued his strong early-season run with a fifth-place finish in the junior expert men division.

Verner posted a time of one hour, 17 minutes, 55 seconds, 41 seconds away from reaching the podium. Quebec’s Guillaume Larose-Gingras won the category with a time of 1:15:28. Luke Di Marzo also made the trip to Quebec to compete in the junior expert men division and improved on his 18th place finish last week as he climbed to seventh overall with a time of 1:20:28.Ìý

Squamish’s Quinn Moberg also experienced a bounce-back week, rising from 30th last week to 11th in the elite men’s division on Saturday. Moberg finished the course in 1:36:10, exactly seven minutes behind winner Cameron Jette from Ontario.

Downhill cyclists return to Canada Cup action in Panorama, B.C. on July 6. For local cyclists, the next big event is the Nimby 50 in Pemberton on Saturday (May 31).
