Three children dead, another hospitalized in suspected drunk driving crash in Toronto

TORONTO — Toronto police say a 19-year-old is facing a dozen charges, including multiple counts of impaired driving, after an early-morning crash that left three children dead and three other people in hospital.

TORONTO — Toronto police say a 19-year-old is facing a dozen charges, including multiple counts of impaired driving, after an early-morning crash that left three children dead and three other people in hospital.

Speaking at a brief morning news conference, Acting Insp. Baheer Sarbanandan said the collision took place early Sunday morning at the eastbound offramp at Renforth Drive and Highway 401.

He says a 19-year-old driving a Dodge Caravan allegedly failed to stop at a red light, went over a raised median and collided with a Chrysler Pacifica minivan that was facing northbound while stopped at a red light.

Police say three of the six people in the minivan, children aged 15, 13 and six, died as a result of the crash.

The 40-year-old man behind the wheel, a 35-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child are currently in hospital.

Police say 19-year-old Ethan Lehouillier of Georgetown, Ont., was arrested at the scene and is facing 12 charges, including three counts of impaired driving causing death.
