EDITOR,
I would like to thank The ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp for taking up the search for answers on the boats of Britannia ("Derelict ship sinks at Britannia Beach," Jan. 28). We here in Britannia have been trying to get answers about these boats since they were abandond here.
I myself was very active in the acid rock clean-up and am ashamed of our government for the neglect the shear neglect of all of our government representatives in this matter.
The foreshore has started to show life again but no one seems to care about safeguarding it.
The last two boats are tied together so if one goes down, they both go down. They will most likely sink while meetings are held and more money is spent on "talking about" doing something.
The Coast Guard has tied these boats back up to the pilings on several occassions because they came loose from their moorings.
There is no maintanence being done on the boats and hasn't been for many years.
A valve does not have to be opened for ships to sink in B.C. The volume of rainwater that we get will see to it that the two remaining boats sink as it did the last two!
And everyone will drag their feet and talk and point fingers and we will have more diesel and oil in the sound.
I feel so privilaged to live on the Howe Sound and on the West Coast.
I hope this can be resolved because these are not the only ships on the West Coast that will damage the shores with diesel and oil when they sink due to neglect.Ron FulberBritannia Beach
