The Vancouver Canucks didn't make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the Stanley Cup will be coming to Vancouver.
The Florida Panthers entered Tuesday's Game 6 up 3-2 in the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers. They left Game 6 with the Stanley Cup after a crushing victory, hammering the Oilers 5-1.
West Vancouver's own Sam Reinhart scored four of the Panthers' five goals, tying an NHL record for the most goals in a Stanley Cup Final game. Just five other players have scored four goals in a single game in a Stanley Cup Final: Ƶappy Lalonde and Frank Foyston in 1919, Babe Dye in 1922, Ted Lindsay in 1955, and Maurice Richard in 1957.
That means it's been 68 years since a player has scored four goals in a Stanley Cup Final game.
Vancouver actually has a previous connection to that record, albeit on the wrong side. Babe Dye's four goals came in the 1922 Stanley Cup Final for the Toronto St. Patricks against the Vancouver Millionaires. The four goals came in the deciding Game 5 of the best-of-5 series, preventing the Millionaires from winning their second Stanley Cup.
Reinhart's four goals gave him seven goals in the series against the Oilers, which is tied for the fifth most in a single Stanley Cup Final series. The record for the most is nine, held by three players: Foyston, Dye, and Vancouver Millionaires legend Cyclone Taylor.
Sam Reinhart's four-goal night
Reinhart opened the scoring for the Panthers in spectacular fashion, stealing the puck from Evan Bouchard, then dancing around Mattias Ekholm before beating Stuart Skinner while falling to the ice.

After Matthew Tkachuk made it 2-0 in the final minute of the first period, Reinhart added another goal on Skinner in the second.
Skinner spilled out a rebound on a weak shot from distance, allowing Aleksander Barkov to set up Reinhart for an open net. Reinhart's stick was hooked, but Reinhart angled his skates to deflect the puck in to make it 3-0 for the Panthers.

Reinhart's final two goals went into an empty net as the Oilers pulled Skinner for the extra attacker with seven minutes remaining.
It was a desperate move at a desperate time, but the Panthers played with complete calm, moving the puck around to Reinhart to score the hat-trick goal from the Oilers' blue line, then his fourth goal from centre as he was being hauled down.
With the Panthers up 5-0 with five minutes remaining, it looked like Reinhart's first goal would stand up as the game-winner, giving him the Cup-deciding goal in back-to-back years.
Vasily Podkolzin ruined the story, however, by poking in a loose puck in the crease for the Oilers' only goal just 23 seconds after Reinhart scored his fourth. That made the score 5-1 and gave the game-winning goal to Tkachuk instead.
Reinhart after the Panthers' championship in 2024. He hosted an event at Hollyburn Country Club, which is where he and his brothers first learned how to skate. It was a chance to spend time with past coaches, former teammates, and their families.
He then took the Cup to Capilano Golf and Country Club to play a couple of holes with the Cup itself as a ball market, as well as plenty of photos and autographs with young fans.
One has to think Reinhart will once again bring the Stanley Cup to Vancouver this summer.
