The month of July signifies one thing to competitive ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappmountain bikers: The Gearjammer is coming.

The third race in the Test of Metal series hits local trails on Saturday (July 18), when hundreds are expected to take on the 45-kilometre race.

Gearjammer is regarded for its mostly single-track ride, and the course stretches across nearly the entire length of Squamish. The race begins at Alice Lake Provincial Park and riders roll through the trails of Garibaldi Highlands and Valleycliffe before reaching the finish line at Rose Park.

Last year saw ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappresidents win both the male and female divisions, with Greg Day and Brandi Heisterman grabbing the top spots at the race. Other recent overall winners at the Gearjammer include: North Vancouver’s Kevin Calhoun and Squamish’s Neal Kindree.

The event is looking for volunteers, and those interested can contact Judy Roberts at [email protected] for more information. Volunteers receive a t-shirt, lunch and a volunteer appreciation party after the race.

Registration for the race is ongoing and can be done on the day of the race, but it closes at 10 a.m. sharp on Saturday. The mass start race kicks off at 11 a.m. on Alice Lake Park Road on Saturday.
