For the first time in club history, the Howe Sound Hitmen flag football team tasted the thrill of victory.
The team, which is made up of 11 and 12-year-olds, defeated the Eagles 18-0 in North Vancouver on Saturday, May 9. Head coach Troy Wilton said it was a great effort, especially from his defence.
“We played a solid defensive game and it was a good win,” he said.
Keegan Taylor, Reniel Belandres and Kolby Wilton scored the touchdowns in the win, and Logan O’Sullivan grabbed a momentum-changing interception early in the game.
The Hitmen kicked off the spring season on May 2 with a 19-6 loss to the Seahawks in North Vancouver. Kolby Wilton scored the team’s lone touchdown in the loss. The club plays a total of 16 games during the season before the playoffs conclude in August.
Next up for the Hitmen is a battle with the Vikings in North Vancouver on Saturday (May 16). For more on the team, visit www.facebook.com/groups/1585192881725418.
