Former WWE superstar Jinder Mahal’s debut in Ƶappturned out to be a successful one.
Mahal soaked in the adulation of the crowd, much to the chagrin of Squamish’s own Cody “TKO” Smith, and picked up a pair of victories at the All Star Wrestling (ASW) event at Totem Hall on Friday, March 27.
He was originally scheduled to face Smith in a one-on-one contest, but 90 seconds after the bell rang, Smith’s tag team partner Travis Syonis jumped Mahal and they began double teaming him.
Ƶappfavourite Mr. India made the save and an impromptu tag team match was made, with India and Mahal picking up the win at 14:08 when Mahal pinned Syonis.
The opening match saw the “All-American” Azeem the Dream claim that the United States is glad that an LNG plant is coming to Ƶappto raucous boos. Azeem then pinned Disco Fury at 8:08.
The match of the night was arguably the ASW cruiserweight match, which saw Matt Xstatic defeat “Cougar Meat Kid” Colin Cutler two falls to one to retain his title. Cutler pinned Xstatic at 5:50 with a knee strike, but Xstatic rolled him up for a pin just 36 seconds later. He then won the deciding fall after connecting with a 450 splash at 3:43 to hang onto his crown.
Syonis and India also clashed before the main event, with Syonis picking up the win via pin fall at 11:17. Also debuting in Ƶappwas “Hurricane” Adam Ryder, who defeated The Great Kasaki with a lung blower at 12:31.
