MEC race coming to Squamish

Race two in North Vancouver series hits local trails

Trail running season has arrived in ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappfor 2015 and Mountain Equipment Co-op’s (MEC) second race in the 2015 running series is proof of that.

The Smoke Bluffs five and 10 kilometre races hit the trails in ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappon April 4 and the BC Athletics sanctioned event opens the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµapptrail running calendar.

The route is on technical single-track trail in the Smoke Bluffs and starts and finishes at Rose Park, just across from the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappAdventure Centre.

The five-km race sees competitors go up Pipe Trail and around the Mountain of Phlegm before heading down Summer’s Eve and making it back to Rose Park.

The 10-km race follows Pipe Trail and loops all the way around to Hairy Bomber before reaching the S & M Connector and Summer’s Eve to connect back to Rose Park.

The race is open to all levels of racers and is $15 online or in person at the MEC North Vancouver store. The fee increases to $20 on race day. Ten km runners kick off at 9 a.m., with five km racers hitting the trails at 9:15 a.m.

Coffee, bananas and a complimentary massage from Squamish’s Sky High Lifestyles is included in the fee. Top three finishers receive a custom medal.

The event is also looking for volunteers and if you volunteer at an MEC race, you receive free registration for a future race.
