It might be part of a brand new trail running series in Squamish, but the 12th annual Loop the Lakes is sticking to its classic course.

The classic ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapprun by Alice Lake returns on May 23. It’s the first race in the newly formed Run ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappseries.

Competitors have the option of racing the eight kilometre, 15 km or 21 km distances, and both the start and finish lines are located at Alice Lake Provincial Park.

The free kids’ race also returns for 2015. Parents are welcome to accompany children, who must register on the day of the race between 10 and 10:30 a.m.

Racers in the 21 km distance hit the trails at 8 a.m., while it starts at 8:30 a.m. for the 15 km runners and 9 a.m. for the 8 km racers. The kids’ race gets underway at approximately 10:45 a.m.

The event is also looking for volunteers; anyone interested can visit www.runsquamish.com.

Loop the Lakes is the first of four races in the Run ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapptrail running series. Next up for the series is the new Shannon Basin Loop trail run on June 13.
