For the first time in 23 years, Canada is the International Softball Federation world champion and the team’s success had a strong ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappconnection.Â
ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappresident Kevin Schellenberg manned the infield for the club and former ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµappresident John Stuart was the head coach of the team that captured the gold in Saskatoon on Sunday, July 5.Â
Canada clinched the title by shutting out Venezuela 10-0 on Saturday and then defeated New Zealand 10-5 on Sunday in the gold medal game.Â
Canada dominated in round robin play, compiling a record of seven wins and zero losses. The club outscored its opposition 55-9 in the seven games and moved on to the playoff round as the top seed in Pool A.Â
Canada continued its strong play in the playoff round, winning three of four en route to the world title.Â
