Sounders golf season ends

Rizun, Chiyasu competing in junior tournaments

The competitive golf season is over for the Howe Sound Secondary School team, but two golfers are hoping to keep their summer dreams on the links alive.

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵappValley Golf and Country Club hosted the 2015 North Shore region golf play downs for high school boys and girls of all levels on May 4 but the Sounders came up a little short.

Howe Sound competes in the AAA division but couldn’t match Rockridge (301) or Argyle (317), who will now both advance to the AAA high school golf provincials in June.

The Sounders team, which consists of Ollie Rizun, Yamato Chiyasu, Otis Geddes, Zach Harvey and Tobin Hubner, finished out of the top two and put away the clubs for 2015.

Rizun had a good day individually, topping the field of 72 golfers with a 71 (-1) on his home course. Team scores are tabulated by adding each member’s score to reach a cumulative team total.

The golf season isn’t yet over for Rizun and Chiyasu, who are both competing in the BCGA Zone 4 junior tournament series, which wraps up in Osoyoos in July. The pair participated in a Zone 4 event at the SVGCC on Sunday (May 10), with Rizun placing tied for ninth with a 77 (+5) and Chiyasu tied for 34th with a 85 (+13).

Rizun is also hoping to qualify for the BC Men’s Amateur tournament in Oliver in July. Read The ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵapp for more details on how the two golfers fare this summer.
