Ski champs hit corridor
Last weekend the ski slopes in the Sea to Sky Corridor were busy. More than 160 young athletes from across the province took to Blackcomb Mountain to compete in moguls, slopestyle and big air events, with many local athletes taking home some hardware and bettering their chances of qualifying for the upcoming junior national championships.
The three-day competition “has run really smoothly and the conditions have been superb,” said Julia Smart, WBFSC secretary and chief of the Timber Tour competition office.
Local skiers swept several divisions’ podiums over the course of the weekend, including the women’s U12 super youth moguls (Leda Walker first, Emily Howell second, Jayde Rainnie third), men’s U12 moguls (Landon Owen-Mold first, Hugo Mason second, Byron Jackson third), women’s U16 moguls (Ava Dunham first, Jessica Linton second and Raine Haziza third), slopestyle (Josephine Howell first, Linton second, Haziza third) and big air (Josephine Howell first, Skye Clarke second, Linton third) and the men’s U16 big air (Kai Smart first, Julien Chartrand second, Ben Lynch third).
