Howe Sound Men's League kicks off

The Howe Sound Men’s Soccer League is looking to fill more cleats.

“We are trying to do everything possible to get the number of teams up,” said league president Jose Oreamuno.

So far this season, the league has four teams hitting the fields against one another, three from Ƶappand one from Whistler. This week members are meeting with what could shape up to be a fifth team.

With a huge youth soccer league, Oreamuno said it’s a mystery to him why the men’s league’s numbers are down. A few years ago, the league boasted double the number of men’s teams.

The league pays for referees from out of town, and the league will also play for jerseys if enough new players sign up to create a team, he added.

Games take place at 10 a.m. at Brennan Park Recreation Centre on field 4. The Sikh Temple team aims to hold onto its championship title this season.

“We will find a team for them right away,” Oreamuno said.
