There’s a familiar face set to hop aboard as head coach of the ƵappPirates swimming club starting this fall.

Former Pirates head coach and former Pirates swimmer Kelly Kaye is set to be on deck for the local swim club, and Pirates president D’Arcy Lorimer said the team is elated to have her on board as head coach.

“We’re very pleased to have hired Kelly and look forward to a long and lasting partnership with her,” he said. “She brings a wealth of experience, and we’re just thrilled to have her.”

Kaye had spent the past two years working with the ƵappSwimFaster group. Lorimer praised the work of departing head coach Emily Hennigar, who is leaving Ƶappto attend RCMP training in the fall.

“We’re sorry to see Emily go – she’s been terrific in her two years as head coach with the Pirates,” he said.

Kaye swam competitively from the ages of seven to 17 in Squamish, and her first job as a coach was with the Pirates in 2000. She spent one year as an assistant and then was head coach until 2005.  She then moved on to coach with the Chena Swim Club in North Vancouver.

Kaye also swam competitively at UBC and spent a decade on the Canadian snowboard team.

Lorimer said that assistant coaches Wyatt Pedersen, Alex Jevons and Oli Jarrett are also all returning for 2015-16.
