Spring is just around the corner and that means activity is starting to ramp up for the Team Ƶappcycling team.

The club hosted its kick-off meeting at the Sandman Hotel in Ƶappon Friday, Feb. 13 and it featured an overview of the 2015 season, a chance for the public to meet the club and its staff and check out the brand new team jerseys.

The event also gave Team Ƶappa chance to reflect on 2014 and hand out its annual awards. Rhys Verner won the Most Committed award presented by Tantalus Bike Shop. Verner had a tremendous 2014 season with strong results locally and all across the world.

Nick Kleban received the Best New Rider award presented by Republic Bikes after a stellar first year that included top ten finishes in his age group at the Sunshine Coaster, Test of Metal, JABR and a second place finish in his age group at the Gearjammer.

Hunter Verner captured the Most Improved award presented by Corsa Cycles and Sean Fincham won the Coaches Choice award.

“We are really excited about the 2015 season after having accomplished so many things in 2014,” said Team Squamish’s Jan Toom in an email. “We have increased our female ridership which is awesome and have a fine mix of new and veteran riders.”

Team Ƶappmembers begin competing in March with several locals heading to California for races. Head coach Mike Charuk said there’s a possibility that Team Ƶappwill also send athletes to the Sea Otter Classic in California in April. He added that the club will focus on Test of Metal series races in the spring and summer and national selection races in April, May and June.
