The U17 girls select team lost its bid for the soccer provincials after dropping the Coastal Cup semi-final 4-0 to the visiting Vancouver United Wolfpack at Brennan Park Sunday afternoon.
The game was closer than the final score indicates, although the Ƶappteam was in tough from the start.
The Vancouver side, the winners from the top Lower Mainland division, seemed in control early, although the Ƶappbackline players were able to break up most of the Vancouver attack.
The visitors tallied their first goal midway through the half. Ƶapprallied as the half went on but could never quite break through the Wolfpack defence.
Ƶappplayers were able to push the ball upfield, with much of the offence generated off the boots of Tanya Fearon and Kyley Rosser on the right wing.
However, Vancouver took advantage of breaks to score more goals.
Even with the loss, Ƶappcoach Brent Williston was proud of his players.
“We ran into some stiff competition today,” he said. ”It wasn’t for lack of effort.”
